Senior health fair has pulse of community

The 25th annual Senior Health Fair drew big crowds to the Regional Park Gym on Wednesday morning.
The theme of the event was “Hat’s off to your health,” and drew a couple hundred people to the park.
The event offered free flu shots, free health screens and over 60 different vendors and products.
When entering the gym, visitors were greeted with two mini horses supplied by Healing Pastures.
The mini horses act as a therapy for people withcancer or those who need a smile brought to their face.
“If I don’t bring them people ask where the minis are,” said Healing Pastures founder Honey Cowan. “We are the official greeters.”
Some of the vendors included Apex care, UC Davis Health and Dignity Health.
There were specialized plans and anything a senior would need to plan out their health or futures.
The Placer School for Adults had representatives present to talk about the many offerings they have for seniors.
They offer low cost or free workshops on a variety of things including classes on how to work an iPhone, use technology or learn a new skill such as line dancing.
“We offer things that are more accessible to our higher age group,” said representative Aubrey Hess.
For more information on PSA classes call 530885-8585 or visit placeronline.org.
The Auburn Senior Center had volunteers present to talk about the classes and events happening there. They are offering safe driving classes and taking a trip to Golden Gate Fields as well as a new newsletter with all of their activities.
