I went to a fabulous seminar this past weekend.  Speaking there was a young man named Logan Noone, who shared how he has bi-polar disorder and how he overcame the obstacles and stigmas of the disease.  He was told not to share his story with the public, but he decided to reject that notion and act on his own accord when he found that sharing his story made him overcome   his depression and anxiety.   I know that it is not uncommon for dementia patients to be dual-diagnosed with bi-polar disorder so I would like to share this young man’s video blog about his struggle and successes with mental illness.  I hope this reaches someone and helps them with dealing with mental illness.

If you have a story about bi-polar disorder please share it here.

Mental Health, Caregiving, and Dementia Support

Living with a mental health condition or caring for someone facing cognitive changes can be challenging for the entire family. Caregivers often experience emotional stress, anxiety, and burnout while trying to balance work, family, and caregiving responsibilities.

If you’re caring for aging parents while also supporting your own family, read our Are You in the Sandwich Generation? article for practical guidance.

Caregivers should also make time for their own wellbeing. Our Know How You Can Sneak Some Time for Yourself During Elder Care article shares practical self-care strategies to help reduce caregiver stress.

Because dementia symptoms and certain mental health conditions can sometimes overlap, our Learn About Psychotropic Medications for Dementia article explains medications commonly used during dementia care.

To better understand memory changes and dementia, watch our Memory Loss versus Alzheimer’s and Other Dementia interview.

Can mental illness and dementia occur together?

Yes. Some older adults may experience both dementia and other mental health conditions. Proper medical evaluation is important because symptoms can sometimes overlap.

How can caregivers reduce stress while supporting a loved one?

Taking regular breaks, asking for help, using respite care, and practicing self-care can help reduce caregiver burnout and improve long-term wellbeing.

Where can I find more caregiver resources?
