Alzheimer’s Care in Greer SC

This is a time of year when people begin planning for the holiday season ahead. There are numerous holidays in autumn, starting with Halloween and Thanksgiving and then Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, and any other holiday a person may celebrate. For somebody who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, they may be relying on a professional care provider. If they are being looked after by loved ones, such as a spouse, adult children, or other family members or friends, decorating for these holidays can be a great way to approve mental stimulation and long-term prospects for their life.

Older decorations can inspire.

While there are many new decorations that are released every single year, if the senior has held onto decorations for the past, they can inspire a walk down memory lane. This is a time when they can begin remembering things that happened in the past and that is going to be stimulating the brain activity in a positive way.

Most of the memories people have that are accessed on a regular basis are not providing valuable exercise for the brain, but when you begin tapping into an old memory, for example, it will generally begin triggering others as well.

Staying active is also an incredibly important aspect of long-term and positive Alzheimer’s care. When the senior has something to look forward to, then he or she will generally be more inclined to want to take part in various activities, including family functions.

Right now would be a good time to begin planning decor for Halloween (which is only about a week away at this point) or Thanksgiving. Even if they don’t plan on having family or friends visiting their house they can still decorate for the holiday season.

Sit down and discuss the type of decor the senior would like to enjoy this particular Thanksgiving holiday. Maybe they want some oranges, yellows, and other traditional Thanksgiving colors. Maybe they want to add some gourds, pumpkins, or even cornstalks around the outside of their house.

If they have certain tablecloths or runners they enjoy having out with this particular holiday, make sure you find them now. If they have a lot of stuff in boxes in the attic, in the basement, in closets, or elsewhere, it may take some time to sort through them, especially if they are not organized.

The most important aspect when it comes to somebody with Alzheimer’s is to ensure that they are actively involved in decorating for the holidays. It’s easier for some people to simply do the work themselves and ‘get it over with,’ but that’s not going to provide the type of mental or emotional benefits that senior could gain.
