Advocacy

As a seasoned senior care advocate, CEO Therese Johnson first provides a thorough eldercare consultation and assessment, usually completed in the senior’s home, which includes evaluating the home for safety hazards and providing recommendations and solutions.

Senior Care of Sacramento can serve as the administrator for yourself or your loved one, tending to the bureaucratic hassles of all health care access and funding needs.

We stand in for family members who are on vacation or live out of town, to assist with managing medication or hiring a caregiver, and to represent them at the hospital or senior care community.

Senior Care of Sacramento can:

Arrange for someone to ensure that the senior makes each doctor appointment, that results from test and procedures are analyzed and reported, and that prescriptions are filled on time and taken correctly.

Consult and advise on all things regarding Medicare, MediCal, HMOs, and supplemental secondary insurance coverage. For a fee we will review all bills from medical professionals, hospitals, and insurance companies for accuracy, and advise when items covered by insurance are not paid accordingly.

Consult and advise, for a fee, that all information is submitted correctly during a hospital visit or admission.
Assist with other serious medical cares and concerns for clients that hire us on retainer.

Consult and advise on an Advanced Health Care Directive or Power of Attorney, and arrange for a Living Will to be reviewed and approved by a legal expert.

If the senior remains living at home, Senior Care of Sacramento will ensure that the daycare service is making all scheduled visits and that the senior is safe and well.
Arrange for community services such as Meals on Wheels, adult daycare, and wheelchair transportation service for a fee.
Consult and advise on other valuable government services for the senior.
Oversee and report to a designated family member on any services needed such as private duty in-home nursing or hospice respite.
If and when necessary, find “best match” senior housing such as an Assisted Living community, Alzheimer’s care community, or skilled nursing.
Advise on the transition to a new living environment.

If the senior is placed in a care community, Senior Care of Sacramento can act as a liaison for families that do not live nearby, keeping them informed as we monitor the senior’s care and handle the coordination of additional services as they become necessary.

If the responsibility of caregiver and advocate becomes overwhelming, Senior Care of Sacramento can bring an third party caregiver into the situation to alleviate the burden on the daughter, son, or other caregiver.

We serve as the administrator for yourself or your loved one, tending to the bureaucratic hassles of health care and funding needs as allowed by law. We will stand in for family members who are on vacation or live out of town, or who just need a senior care expert to represent them at a doctor’s office, hospital, or senior care community, or to assist with managing medication and hiring a caregiver with written permission by the senior or their power of attorney.

Each family’s situation is different, but issues often addressed include:

Facilitation of family communication and establishment of family members’ roles and responsibilities.

Including the voice of the senior, making them feel involved and secure.

Planning and anticipating issues before a crisis develops.

Finding the best solution for unexpected medical problems, whether in-home care or offsite respite care.

Driving and transportation solutions.

Finances and bill paying.

Asset protection, inheritance, personal property distribution, and trust matters, and avoiding court guardianship.

End of life decision-making.
