Energy and Method of Reiki

If you are new to Reiki, here is some information to help you understand the energy and method of the Reiki practice:

The Energy
Take a moment to reflect on the sensation of being touched — by a business acquaintance, a child, a friend, a lover, or an adversary. In each situation, the physical touch may be exactly the same, like a hand resting on your arm, but chances are the sensation will feel very different. That difference is what we know as energy – the essential life force that pulsates through each one of us. We may not be able to see or touch it, but we all can feel it. Energy is the qualitative difference between bouncing out of bed and whistling through the day or crawling out of bed and dragging through the morning (despite multiple cups of coffee!)

Want a more tactile understanding of energy? Rub your hands together as hard and fast as is comfortable, for about ten seconds. Now quickly place the palms of your hands right over your eyes, without touching. Can you feel the heat? That’s your energy. Energy flows through us and around us 24/7. It is the electrical impulse of our heartbeat. It is the force enabling flowers to bloom. It is the heat that radiates from sun.

The Method
Just as solar power channels energy from the sun, to run everything from automobiles to water heaters, so does a Reiki Master channel energy from what is called “the Source” – the primary energy force that powers the Universe. Think of it this way: Sound frequencies are always floating around us, but we need to turn on a radio and “tune in” to a particular station (frequency), before we can hear those sounds. A Reiki Master is akin to a human radio dial: She “tunes in” to healing energy frequencies, then allows her body to serve as a vessel of sorts — the frequencies running through her hands and into the body of her client. In this way, when a client receives a session, he is doing the human equivalent of recharging batteries or plugging a device into an electrical outlet.
